The SENA PRISM Action Camera

Well, here we are with the new 2015 riding season about to get under way and that means a new Vlogging Season!

It has been my joy and privilege to work with SENA Bluetooth now for the past two or three years with their different products, like their different headsets and the Audio Backpack for the GoPro cameras (reviewed in the March issue). Now it is time to take a look at and review their newest entry into the motorcycling line of products, the SENA PRISM Action Camera.

Over the past couple of years, the action camera has become very popular with several different companies entering the field with their offerings. By far the most popular camera is the GoPro line of cameras, with the Black Series being their top of the line. Last year Garmin entered the market with their Virb and Virb Elite models.

When SENA released the Audio Backpack for the GoPro, the Vlogging community went wild, because now they could add live sound to their footage without using a cobbled up wired mic system in their helmets out to their camera. It was about the same time as the release of the Audio Backpack that plans were announced that SENA would introduce their own version of an action camera.

After having to wait several months, the day finally arrived when we were finally able to get our hands on the much anticipated SENA PRISM. I knew what quality that we had gotten accustomed to with their SMH10 and 20S Bluetooth headsets and the Action Backpack for the GoPro cameras and I knew that we would not be disappointed in the PRISM.

On the day that the FedEx driver dropped off the package and I opened the box, the WOW factor kicked in and stayed in motion until I got to the bottom of the box! To begin with, when you open the box, the first two things that you are greeted with are the camera itself and the waterproof housing. OK, you ask, why would that be such a WOW factor? Simply put, the PRISM is the hummingbird of Action Cameras! Its size is so small that you can literally put the entire camera in the center of the palm of your hand! This means no heavy bulky camera on your helmet anywhere! The remaining WOW factor was that it comes with about every kind of mounting system that one could imagine. All of these are separate purchase items with every other brand of camera.

The camera itself has many features that make it very special in the Vlogging community outside of its size. To start with, Bluetooth HD audio recording is built into the camera and will work with any Bluetooth headset. If you have a SENA headset, the camera will actually talk to you by way of voice prompts, letting you know the status of the camera. The control of the camera is very simple, two buttons on top of the camera controlling all functions, but if you have a SENA headset, it can be as simple as rotating your jog dial and tapping! The camera also has an app for both IOS and Android allowing full control. The picture quality is superb with a 1080p, 30fps output. The only two drawbacks that I can say that I have found are no screen or ability to preview your footage (rumor has it that this will be in a firmware update) and the fact that if you use the side helmet mount, you cannot use the waterproof case. This in itself is alright as the camera is waterproof, but there is no added protection for the lens from road grime and bugs.

Overall, I would say that SENA has done an outstanding job and that they will offer serious competition to the GoPro line of cameras!

I do not have room here to cover all of the benefits of this camera, so I suggest that you go to www.youtube.com and watch the numerous reviews. I also recommend that you go to the SENA website for this camera at www.sena.com/promo/prism/ for more information.

Until Next Time

Ride Safe and Ride Often

The Book Has Finally Arrived!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read for a GA motorcycle enthusiast, April 11, 2013

The title of the review says it all. Good read for a GA motorcycle enthusiast. It's an easy read to help set up rides. If you live here or plan to ride here get a copy to help find some great roads. - James R. Harrell

While up in Helen, GA for Victory Cycle rally we took a little ride over to Dahlonega and found Riders Hill. I picked up a copy of your book, and thou I'm only part way thru it, it's been an enjoyable read so far. It also helped me find Chattahoochee Biker Gear in Helen. Best wishes in the future.....Mike

In a day when motorcycling is not only becoming an economical way of transportation, riders are also discovering the joy of riding for pleasure.

This book is written for those that want to take off and find some scenic rides in the North Georgia, Southeastern Tennessee and Southwestern North Carolina areas.

I have included some motorcycling stories for your reading pleasure including a comical take on my son's first long distance motorcycle trip. The chapters have been kept to a minimal write-up description of the rides, but yet they give you a feel for the ride area. Each chapter also includes photos from the ride routes, as well as, a map and turn by turn directions.

I am a very strong believer that businesses that truly believe in the biking community and welcome us into their establishments with open arms deserve our support! I have included in the book a listing of businesses that have believed in us and their information is included throughout the book. I encourage you to lend your support to these businesses that support us!
